11:30am- Just one trip today, and it was tough! We were greeted with a stiff south wind that had been blowing for several hours, causing choppy conditions. Capt Ryan wanted to try for a whale, so he steered the boat to the only place we have known they are the last few days: the oil rigs. This is a spot 10 miles offshore, farther than we usually go. Arriving at the spot, there were tons of feeding birds but no marine mammals. It was a gamble that just didn’t pay off for us today. However, we had a back up plan and got to enjoy a pod of 40 common dolphins closer to shore on our way back in. We also saw harbor seals and california sea lions on our coastal tour.
